Arkest, City of Gates

Full Record

Arkest — also known as Arkhest — is one of the oldest and most dangerous cities in the Dreaming Empire of Dor. Located to the far east beside the Sea of Bones, Arkest is over a thousand years old and built in layers of history, shadow, and blood. They call it the City of Gates for two reasons: it is the greatest trade hub in the known world, and it houses numerous hidden, unstable, and often forbidden portals to other realms. Some lead to celestial domains. Most lead to void-broken dimensions, hellscapes, and things far worse. Arkest is five cities in one, each quarter holding its own identity: the Drowned Docks (east), the Gilded Vale (west), The Grave (north), The Greywood (south), and the Coin Quarter (central).

Cartographic Notes

Power in Arkest is fragmented across factions. True power belongs to whoever can afford it — or kill for it. The city's leyline pulses beneath the Coin Quarter, monitored and feared by the Spellweaver College. The ongoing shadow war between the Grim Shadows and the Silver Veil has turned entire quarters into battlegrounds — the eastern district bleeds, the western quarter crawls with watchers, and the northern Grave holds the line. The Battle of the Crystal Spire was a pivotal engagement in this conflict, spoken of by veterans like Sergeant Brael.
