Greythorn, The Withered Court

A city of decaying splendor built within the central swamplands. Ancient families cling to titles and hoarded wealth like corpses to crowns. The northern ruins conceal the Grey Thorn — Kane's ancestral keep.

Greythorn, The Withered Court

Full Record

Greythorn is a city of decaying splendor, built within the swamplands at the empire's heart. Once a center of noble power, it now stands as a relic of lost prestige. The towers lean and sink into the wet earth. Vines climb crumbling stone. Courtyards flood and rot. Yet within these haunted manors, ancient families endure, clinging to their titles and hoarded wealth. Greythorn is defined by masks, formality, and silence. Children are raised to fear outsiders, revere ancestry, and never reveal truth without purpose. Knowledge is a weapon. Kindness is weakness. Secrets are currency. Beyond the city proper lie the ancient ruins of Grey Thorn — the ancestral keep of Kane Grey Thorn. The castle sits atop a scar of rock, its three curtain walls crumbling, the outer walls collapsed. Ivy and dead moss cover what remains. The throne hall — once a great room with a high ceiling — now stands open to the sky, its banners reduced to grey ribbons, the throne itself little more than a stone chair split by time and violence. It was here that Kane was cursed over six hundred years ago, and here that mage hunters led by Lord Grent attempted to destroy him by staking him through the chest, lining his grave with blessed stone, and burying him in holy ground. But the sacred soil of Grey Thorn answered Kane, not the hunters — and he rose from the earth more furious than before.

Cartographic Notes

Greythorn holds no army, no fleet, no mage tower. It holds generational wealth, access to precious metals, ancient imperial pacts and debts, and knowledge of forbidden rites that even Spelloch fears. In Greythorn, death is never final, masks are never removed, and the roses always bloom in silence. The Grey Thorn ruins predate the modern city by centuries. The keep was once the seat of an ancient noble line — Kane's bloodline — before the curse reduced it to rubble and legend. Lord Grent and his mage hunters (Zed, Markus, Deago, Cox, and Billy) tracked Kane here, believing the holy ground would neutralize his immortality. They were wrong.
